Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia – IIT (www.iit.it) is opening a post-doctoral position regarding theoretical investigations of plasmonic properties of topologically-non-trivial materials. The candidate will be required to combine ab initio methods based on density functional theory with linear response theory with the aim of achieving qualitative and quantitative understanding of the optoelectronic and plasmonic properties of materials with a band structure characterised by non-trivial topological features. Examples of these materials include recently discovered Weyl semimetals such as TaAs and monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides such as WTe2.
This research activity will be carried out at the Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Genoa (Italy), in collaboration with the “Theory and Technology of 2D Materials”group https://www.iit.it/it/research/lines/theory-and-technology-of-2d-materials under the supervision of Prof. Marco Polini.
Eligible applicants must have a PhD in Theoretical Physics. Proven expertise in theoretical condensed matter physics and density functional theory will be considered an asset. Successful candidates for this position will have publications on ab initio and numerical approaches for optical and transport properties of quantum materials and nanoscale devices.
Salary and benefits are in line with international standards.
The closing date for applications is October 18, 2017; applications, including a cover letter, CV and names of 2 referees should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org quoting “Post doc on theoretical investigations of topological plasmonics CB 73852” in the subject line.
IIT was established in 2003 and successfully created a large-scale infrastructure in Genova and a network of 10 state-of-the-art laboratories countrywide with an international staff of about 1100 people from more than 50 countries. IIT's research endeavour focuses on high-tech and innovation, representing the forefront of technology with possible application from medicine to industry, computer science, robotics, life sciences and nano-biotechnologies.
