IIT’s Financial Statements are certified by an independent auditing firm (in 2017, Ria Grant Thorton). IIT prepares its financial statements in accordance with the accrual accounting principle, recognising contributions and costs based on their actual use, with the corresponding temporal variance between acquisition and actual financial collection of external projects (average duration of 3 years).

In 2017 public financing received through the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance amounted to approximately EUR 94 million, of which 80% was allocated to scientific and technological activities. Independent financial resources from fund raising activities amount to approximately EUR 238 million of which EUR 168,6 million were obtained from competitive projects, EUR 52,8 million from commercial projects and EUR 16,6 million as in-kind contributions.
