The Humanoid and Human Centred Mechatronics Research Line at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), is seeking to appoint international well motivated outstanding young fellow with a strong ambition to pursue a research career towards the design and control of robotic systems addressing the upcoming societal grand challenges. At the time of the application, the prospected candidate is about to receive a master’s degree in engineering or computer science or has already received a corresponding master’s degree not more than 6 months ago.

As the successful candidate you will be actively involved in research activities in Robot Control of force controlled robotic arms, bi-manipulation systems and hybrid wheeled/legged robot platforms.     
As part of our research group you will develop, implement and deploy control algorithms for modular, efficient, flexible robots that pair high power manipulation with soft physical interaction skills. Your work will eventually be applied on the robot hardware platforms such as Centauro (www.centauro-project.eu/) developed in our lab over the past years.

Requirements: The successful applicant for this area is expected to:

  • be highly enthusiastic about robotics and working in an international multidisciplinary research environment,
  • be a creative and curious mind,
  • be eager to make your algorithms work on real hardware,
  • have excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language.

Experiences and knowledge in the following fields are a plus:

  • Robot dynamics and control
  • Software Development under Linux
  • Programming in relevant languages such as C++, Python or Matlab/Simulink
  • Git, ROS, Gazebo, etc.
  • Sensors and Sensor Fusion
