The Center for Synaptic Neuroscience and Technology (NSYN@Unige) at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, under the supervision of prof. Fabio Benfenati, is opening a Researcher position within the Neuroscience and Smart Materials Research Line.
The research project will investigate in vitro and ex vivo light-sensitive smart materials including nanoparticles, photochromic molecules and optogenetic probes and investigate their effects in vitro and in vivo, with the aim of setting up innovative strategies for neuroprosthetics. The main objectives are to elucidate the mechanisms of photo-transduction by these materials in primary neurons/retina explants and evaluate the in vivo rescue of visual activity after implant/injection of the materials in the eye.
The successful applicant should have a PhD in Neuroscience, Neurophysiology, Biotechnology or a similar subject and an in-depth experience in material interfacing with neurons, neurobiology and neurophysiology. Experience in optogenetics and in-vivo recordings of animal models will be considered a plus.
Salary and benefits are competitive for international standards.
Please submit your application (deadline July 10, 2019), including a detailed curriculum, 3 representative publications and 2 pages of research statement in PDF format to firstname.lastname@example.org quoting “Researcher in Innovative strategies for neuroprosthetics using light-sensitive smart materials, CB 77063” in the subject line.
Candidates must also request three reference letters to be sent directly in PDF format to email@example.com by the referees.
