The Advanced Robotics Research Line at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia is seeking to appoint a highly motivated post-doc who will have a leading research role in human factors and ergonomics for exoskeletons.

The selected candidate will join an interdisciplinary team and have the opportunity to pursue research within the project “Sistemi Cibernetici Collaborativi – Exoskeletons” in partnership with INAIL (“Istituto Nazionale per l'Assicurazione contro gli Infortuni sul Lavoro” – Italian Workers’ Compensation Authority CUP J32F17000950005

This project aims at the development of a full-body exoskeleton for the assistance of workers during manual handling tasks. There will be an important focus towards the industrial needs from different areas, including, but not limited to, manufacturing, maintenance, logistics, agrofood and construction. The project will be developed within an inter-disciplinary group, not only with experts in robotics and exoskeletons, but also professionals in bioengineering and ergonomics.

We are looking for a highly motivated, outstanding scientist with a PhD in Robotics, Engineering, or other fields related with bioengineering, and an excellent, well established publication record in the area of robotics.

The work will mainly focus on the study of human factors and ergonomics of industrial exoskeletons, with special emphasis in the testing and validation including, but not limited to, experimental protocol design, conduction of the user trials (laboratory and industrial testing), data acquisition, data processing and biomechanical analysis.

Proficiency in biomechanics with a proven portfolio of wearable devices, excellent hands-on practical skills and strong competences in biomechanical measurement equipment (motion tracking system, EMG, force plate, etc.) are essential. Experience in the area of exoskeletons, assistive or prosthesis robotics will be a relevant plus.

Desired qualifications:

 - PhD degree in human factors, ergonomics, bioengineering, or related fields;

 - Excellent publication record in human factors, ergonomics and assistive devices;

 - Experience in biomechanical modeling and experimentation, preferably in exoskeletons and wearable assistive robots;

 - Strong interest in assistive devices;

 - Creative and proactive attitude;

 - Strong communication and English language skills (written and oral);

 - Strong team player.

The successful candidate will be offered a salary commensurate to experience and skills.
