One post-doctoral position in biochemistry and structural biology applied to drug discovery is available at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in the Molecular Modeling and Drug Discovery Research Line, led by Dr. Marco De Vivo.

The tasks foreseen will be also carried out within the context of the project IG 2016 n. 1883 “Design and characterization of RhoJ Interaction Inhibitors as a Novel Therapy for Stage III Melanoma” funded by AIRC (Foundation for Cancer Research in Italy).

We are looking for candidates with extensive experience in biochemistry and/or structural biology (protein expression, purification, crystallization and enzymatic assays). The selected candidate will play a key role in generating new inhibitors with therapeutic implications and potential for high-impact publications.

In the lab, as a member of a multidisciplinary team, the candidate will have the opportunity to perform experiments in one or more of the following areas:

  • Characterization of the activity and mechanism of action of small molecules in vitro using enzyme-based assays.
  • Protein crystallization and structure determination.
  • Mammalian cell culture techniques and characterization of the mechanism of action of small molecules in mammalian cell-based assays using human cancer cell lines.
  • Characterization of protein-protein and/or protein-ligand interaction using ITC, MST or SPR.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques, such as cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, PCR, western blotting, etc.
  • Be familiar with imaging techniques and with quantitative image analysis.

The successful candidate will work in a cutting-edge research environment. We are therefore looking for a highly motivated researcher, with excellent analytical and communication skills. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate must possess a sense of scientific curiosity, enjoy working in a team-oriented environment and be capable of mastering new experimental techniques, as required.

The ideal candidate must possess a PhD degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology or closely related fields, with a strong record of research productivity.

Successful candidate will be offered a competitive package commensurate to qualifications and experience.
