The Rehab Technologies Lab at IIT ( ) is seeking to appoint a full-time Senior Mechanical engineer (fixed term contract).

The project will be a technological challenge in which IIT and an internationally recognized clinical partner will share resources, competencies and motivation to achieve excellent results transferable to the medical field.

The selected candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team (consisting of experts in engineering, robotics and medicine) that aims to design exoskeletal and prosthetic robotic devices.

We are looking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer with proven experience in mechanism design and usage of CAD tools.

The ideal candidate should possess a Mechanical Engineering degree or PhD and be able to demonstrate proficiency in mechanical hardware design and excellent hands-on practical skills.

The selected candidate must have:

  • at least 4 years of relevant experience, preferably in industrial R&D
  • Mechanisms design and construction
  • Excellent CAD design skills
  • Hands-on skills

Excellent knowledge of design software tools is a must (Pro Engineer, other relevant are also welcome).

Experience in mechanical design in one or more of the following areas will be considered a plus:

  • Experience in the robotics industry
  • Experience in the design of electromechanical systems
  • Design for manufacturing
  • Experience in the design of complex medical devices
  • Experience with composite materials and related production issues

Position overview

Specific responsibilities of the job would include the following:

  • Operate in team of engineers with diverse background;
  • Design and optimise 3D/2D models of robot parts and assemblies;
  • Development and assembly of robot prototypes;
  • Physically test novel customised designs;
  • Interact with workshops and evaluate manufacturers and suppliers of nonstandard parts;
  • Generate detailed technical documentation for 3D/2D assembly and parts manufacturing;
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues;
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (electronics, software) to ensure the successful integration of their designs with the rest of the system.
