The Organic Neuroelectronics Research Line at the Centre for Translational Neurophysiology of Speech and Communication (CTNSC@UniFe) is opening a Researcher position.

Job Description: We aim to investigate the brain correlates of communicative/interactive behaviors by means of microelectrodes and/or organic electronic devices for electrocorticography (micro-ECoG) on flexible substrates, to record electrical signals directly from the cortex of human patients during neurosurgery for brain lesions, electro-stimulation and biosensing . The aim of the project is to devise a state-of-the-art array with high spatio-temporal resolution of brain signals for human patients affected by pathologies like epilepsy or brain tumors.
In this context, and specifically to potentiate the research in organic neuroelectronics aimed to locally record and stimulate the brain cortex, we are looking for a highly motivated candidate who will work on the design, prototyping and fabrication of flexible electronic devices (transistors) and microelectrodes based on multifunctional materials (whole-organic, organic, hybrid organic/inorganic). Key aspects of this project will be the design and development of instrumentation, tools and technology for the rapid prototyping of organic transistor arrays. Such prototyping technology should be able to process on same footings, pattern and integrate organic and inorganic materials through a multimodal technology platform with micrometer or submicrometer spatial resolution and /or feature size.

The candidate should have a strong scientific and technological background (PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Sciences, Engineering or similar), joint with an extensive experience in materials sciences, micro and nanotechnologies. He should also have a research experience on materials technology for polymers and soft matter, organic electronics, biomaterials interfaces, microscopy, spectroscopy, structural/morphological, electric and electrochemical characterization techniques, multiscale modelling, prototyping, organic thin film technology, instrument building and engineering, micro- and nanofabrication, instrument design and development, vacuum technology, mechanics and electronics. All these aspects will be positively evaluated. The ideal candidate should be independent, proactive, suited for collaborative work in a team with senior researchers and junior collaborators, as well as interact with other groups in international networks.

The successful candidate will work in a fully equipped laboratory in the Center for Translational Neurophysiology of Speech and Communication in Ferrara with the possibility to coordinate an interdisciplinary team of chemists, physicists, engineers, biologists and material scientists.

The salary will be highly competitive and commensurate with qualification and experience.
