A Research Fellow position is available at the Center for Micro-BioRobotics (located in Pontedera (Pisa), Italy) of Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, within the Bioinspired Soft Robotics (BSR) Research Line (

We are looking for an engineer or material scientist to work on the manufacturing and characterization of soft robotics materials and components within the EU H2020-funded project ‘PROBOSCIS - PROBOSCIdean Sensitive soft robot for versatile gripping’ (FET-Open grant agreement No. 863212,

The job tasks include the fabrication and mechanical characterization of soft material parts, actuators, and sensors, and of 3D-printed parts for novel bioinspired soft robotic manipulators. The candidate must be capable of working in an international and multidisciplinary team. Highly competitive salary will be offered to the successful candidate.


  • Master’s degree in Material Science, Material Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field;
  • experience in mechanical characterization of materials;
  • proficiency in English language (written and oral).

Other desirable skills are:

  • experience in mechanical characterization of soft materials (elastomers, hydrogels, biomaterials);
  • experience in fabrication of soft material parts and/or 3D-printing;
  • experience in development of characterization setups.
