The Advanced Robotics Research Line (ADVR) at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) is seeking to appoint two outstanding interns with a strong ambition to pursue a research career.
The selected candidates will join an interdisciplinary team and have the opportunity to pursue research within the European Project “Soft modular biomimetic exoskeleton to assist people with mobility impairments XoSoft” funded by the European Commission with Grant Agreement n. 688175 in partnership with a consortium encompassing nine leading universities, research institutes and companies (http://www.xosoft.eu/).
XoSoft as a project focuses on the development of a soft biometic exoskeleton to assist people with mobility impairments. For people with walking impairments, assistive devices play a pivotal role in their lives and independence. The XoSoft soft exoskeleton focuses on the use of non-traditional sensing and actuation systems based on smart materials and soft structures. The main application area for XoSoft will be in the health care sector, in particular for elderly and disabled people.
We are looking for highly motivated scientists with a MSc. in Systems Engineering.
The use of smart materials for the actuation of soft wearable assistive devices is a big challenge. The selected candidates will investigate the use of different combinations of mechanisms (elastic materials, variable stiffness/damping systems, cable driven actuators, etc.) for the design of highly efficient and effective systems. In particular, the candidates will study the different solutions, which are being developed within the XoSoft project, and undertake analysis, modeling, simulation and optimization of the mechanisms.
For any further inquiries concerning the position, please contact Dr. Jesús Ortiz (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Expected start date could be April 2017.
To apply, please send electronically a detailed CV outlining experience and qualifications, a statement about the research area of interest as well as the names of at least two referees to Jesús Ortiz (email@example.com), quoting [XoSoft Internship] in the subject of the e-mail by February 2, 2017. Only complete applications will be evaluated.
