The Humanoid and Human Centred Mechatronics Research Line within the Department of Advanced Robotics at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), an English-language research Institute, is seeking to appoint two international well-motivated outstanding fellows with a strong ambition to pursue a research career towards the design and control of humanoid robots for real-world tasks. At the time of the application, the prospected candidates are about to receive a Master’s Degree in engineering or computer science or have already received a corresponding Master’s Degree not more than 6 months ago.
As the successful candidate, you will be actively involved in kick-starting novel research activities in Modular Robot Control.
The number of so-called co-bots that are certified for human-robot collaboration is steadily increasing. The number of robots effectively used to automate the production of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) does however not reflect this development. As part of our research group, you will develop, implement and deploy control algorithms for modular, efficient, flexible co-bots that pair high performance manipulation skills as well as soft human-robot interaction, meeting the requirements of small human-centred production lines with substantial task fluctuations. You will be part of a development team that seeks to bring the modularity concept also to legged robots that can cope with difficult terrains and harsh environments in disaster response scenarios. The work will be applied on the robot hardware developed in our lab over the past years.
