The Advanced Robotics (ADVR) at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), an English-speaking research Institute, is looking for a highly motivated, full-time postdoctoral researcher to work in the area of Robotics for Industrial Application for one year (renewable depending on the results) in the Advanced Industrial Automation Lab (AIAL).
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented researcher to work in the analysis, evaluation and design of a novel Industrial Manipulator. This outstanding scientist should have a PhD in engineering, robotics, or other scientific fields and a background in Electronic/Mechanical engineering, Physical Sciences or Robotics.
The successful candidate will work on the design and development of a novel manipulator to be applied in an innovative robotic soft materials handling system. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the Research and Development department of a worldwide leader in automated packaging machines. The work will mainly focus on the analysis, evaluation and design of a robot allowing the manipulation of different parts, fostering efficient multi-variant production, demonstrating highly dexterous behaviour.
The scientist will work in a multidisciplinary team including roboticists, electronic and mechanical designers, and industrial researchers.
Field studies (industrial automation, packaging, etc.) will be an integral part of the work, serving both to refine system specifications and to assess new technologies.
The research will advance the state of the art in manipulation enabling greatly enhanced industry production during the packaging process.
The position includes hands-on and theoretical research within the general activities of the lab.
