The Advanced Robotics Research Line at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, an English-language research Institute, is seeking to appoint a highly motivated full-time post-doc who will have a leading research role in developing mechatronic systems.
The selected candidate will join an interdisciplinary team and have the opportunity to pursue research within the project “Sistemi Cibernetici Collaborativi – Exoskeletons” in partnership with INAIL (“Istituto Nazionale per l'Assicurazione contro gli Infortuni sul Lavoro” - National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work) CUP J32F17000950005
This project aims at the development of a full-body exoskeleton for the assistance of workers during manual handling tasks. There will be an important focus towards the industrial needs from different areas, including, but not limited to, automotive, logistics and construction. The project will be developed within an inter-disciplinary group, not only with experts in robotics and exoskeletons, but also professionals in bioengineering and ergonomics.
We are looking for a highly motivated, outstanding scientist with a PhD in Robotics, Engineering, or other fields related with mechatronics, and an excellent, well established publication record in the area of robotics.
The work will mainly focus on the development of a lower body exoskeleton including, but not limited to, mechanical design, electronics, actuation and control.
Proficiency in mechatronics, electronics and control with a proven portfolio of robotics systems, excellent hands-on practical skills and strong competences in actuators, sensors and embedded systems are essential.
Experience in the area of exoskeletons, assistive or prosthesis robotics will be a relevant plus.
- PhD degree in engineering, robotics, or related fields;
- Excellent publication record in robotics;
- Experience in mechatronics, preferably in exoskeletons and wearable assistive robots;
- Experience in embedded systems and control;
- Strong interest in assistive devices;
- Creative and proactive attitude;
- Strong communication and English language skills (written and oral);
- Strong team player.
IIT is an English language Institute and international applications are strongly encouraged.
The successful candidate could be offered a contract for 24 months or until the end of the project, 31/08/2020 with a highly competitive salary which will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Expected start date could be 1st August 2018 or as soon as possible.
