The Nanomaterials for Energy and Lifescience Research Line at Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia – IIT (www.iit.it) is opening a post-doctoral position on the development of multifunctional materials for extreme nuclear environments in the framework of the H2020 projects GEMMA GA 754586.
This research activity will be carried out at the “Center for Nano Science and Technology” of the Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Milan (Italy), within the Nanomaterials and Nanomanufacturing for Energy and Environment group (N2E) under the supervision of Dr. Fabio Di Fonzo and Prof. Guglielmo Lanzani. Within the GEMMA project, the N2E group will develop corrosion-resistant radiation-tolerant nanoceramic coatings for nuclear reactors applications. These innovative films - acting as protective barriers for structural components - are meant to be employed in future Gen-IV (GIV) systems, especially Lead-cooled Fast Reactors (LFRs).
Eligible applicants should hold a PhD in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or Material Science. Preference will be given to candidates with proven expertise in laser- and plasma-based fabrication processes, such as Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) and Magnetron Sputtering (MS). Strong background in materials science and experience in advanced characterization techniques (SEM, TEM, EDX, and diffraction techniques among others) will be considered as valuable skills. Expertise in materials behavior under ion and neutron irradiation is required, including simulation and computational analysis. Finally, the successful candidate will be fluent in English.
Salary will be commensurate to qualifications and experience and in line with international standards.
The closing date for applications is September, the 27th and applications, including a cover letter,a detailed CV and names of 2 referees should be sent to email@example.com quoting “Post-Doctoral position on the development of multifunctional materials for extreme nuclear environments CB 75829” in the subject line.
IIT was established in 2003 and successfully created a large-scale infrastructure in Genova and a network of 10 state-of-the-art laboratories countrywide with an international staff of about 1100 people from more than 50 countries.
