Postdoctoral fellow – genetics of disconnectivity in schizophrenia - [ Postdoc ]

Workplace: Rovereto, IIT@unitn
Added on: 09/10/2018 - Expires on: 30/11/2018

The Functional Neuroimaging Research Line and Genetics of Cognition Research Line, at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), Italy, are seeking a jointly supervised postdoctoral researcher interested in studying the neural basis of connectivity disruption in schizophrenia.

The project, straddling clinical and preclinical research, aims to investigate the determinants of connectivity aberrancies observed in human carriers of 22q11.2 chromosomal microdeletion, a genetic alteration associated with psychosis and developmental deficits. To achieve this goal, we will employ a combined approach linking complex socio-cognitive behavioral outputs in mice modelling the human 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, with whole-brain measurements of functional and structural connectivity via fMRI and viral tracing. The obtained result will be clinically extrapolated to a well-characterized cohort of human 22q11.2 del carriers (Dr. Carrie Bearden, University of California, Los Angeles).

The candidate must have a PhD in Neuroscience, Biotechnology, Statistics, Medicine, Genetics, Bioengineering, Physics or comparable fields, and have published at least one first-author paper.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Please send your application (full CV and a letter of motivation, plus names and contacts of 2 referees) by email to alessandro.gozzi@iit.it and Francesco.papaleo@iit.it quoting “Postdoctoral fellow – genetics of disconnectivity in schizophrenia, CB 75970”. The deadline for applications is November 30th, 2018.

Applications will be examined until the position is filled.

Please note that this position is contingent on the signature of the relevant Grant agreement.

IIT was established in 2003 and successfully created a large-scale infrastructure in Genova and a network of 10 state-of-the-art laboratories countrywide with an international staff of about 1100 people from more than 50 countries. IIT's research endeavour focuses on high-tech and innovation, representing the forefront of technology with possible application from medicine to industry, computer science, robotics, life sciences and nano-biotechnologies. The IIT center in Rovereto (http://cncs.iit.it/) is actively expanding its infrastructure for systems level neuroscience research, and is inserted both in the vibrant community of the IIT (www.iit.it) and that of CIMeC (www.cimec.unitn.it) within the University of Trento, which specializes in cognitive neuroscience.
