3 Post-Doc positions for “Photonic Neural Interfaces” - [ Postdoc ]

The Center for Biomolecular Nanotechnologies (CBN), an IIT Network Center based in Arnesano, Lecce, is opening 3 Postdoctoral positions in the area of “New Technologies for Neuroscience Research”, related to the FET OPEN Grant NANO-BRIGHT (PIs Prof. Massimo De Vittorio, Dr. Ferruccio Pisanello and Dr. Cristian Ciracì).

The main objective of this project is to develop plasmonic neural endoscopes to study and treat pathological states of the brain, including brain tumors, epilepsy and traumatic brain injuries.

The selected candidate will be integrated in a highly interdisciplinary environment in a young and highly motivated research group, working in state-of-the-art facilities. He/she will participate in the development of new all-optical and optoelectronic neural interfaces, with a particular focus on their design, fabrication and characterization.

Highly motivated and talented candidates with backgrounds in photonics, plasmonics, nanotechnologies, micro and nano-fabrication, Raman spectroscopy, bioengineering, or related areas are invited to apply for the advertised positions. We are looking for scientists with the following competences/skills:

  • Experience in numerical design and development of photonics devices (Fiber Optics-based devices, Plasmonics, Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy)
  • Design and development of advanced optical setups (Confocal Microscopes, Raman Spectroscopy, Use of Spatial Light Modulators or Digital Micromirror Devices, Computer Generated Holograms)
  • Micro and Nanofabrication (Focused Ion Beam-based, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Optical lithography, Two-photon lithography)
  • PhD in physics, nanotechnologies, biophysics, photonics, engineering or related areas.
  • Proven track record of publications in the relevant technical areas and projects.

All the above competences/skills are desirable but not mandatory. Strong organizational skills, creativity, motivation and communication skills (oral and written) are highly required. Finally, proficiency in English is essential.

Salary will depend on qualifications and experience and include additional health benefits.
