The Humanoid and Human Centred Mechatronics Research Line at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), is seeking to appoint two international well-motivated fellows with a strong ambition to pursue a career towards the development of generic software and control tools for robot end-effectors. At the time of the application, the prospected candidates are about to receive a Master’s Degree in engineering or computer science or have already received a corresponding Master’s Degree not more than 6 months before.
The selected candidate will contribute in activities related to the European project “Rosin” funded by the European Commission with Grant Agreement n. 732287
The successful candidate will be actively involved in kick-starting novel research activities in software and control for universal robotic end-effectors.
The recent development and rapid advancements of collaborative robotic platforms has created the necessity for both the research and the industry of improving and extending the capabilities of robot end-effectors, improving the interaction and collaboration between the robot and the human worker. In particular, concerning grasping capabilities, although classical, relatively simple and task specific, grippers are well able to accomplish their tasks in structured environments; their use in less structured work cells to execute grasping of more complex parts in collaboration with humans required to improve the flexibility of the grasping functionality through appropriate and more complicate end-effector kinematics and actuation capabilities. As part of our research group, you will develop, implement and deploy software components and control algorithms with standardized interfaces capable of controlling a wide range of robotic end-effectors in an agnostic fashion.
The work will be applied on the robot hardware developed in our lab over the past years (HERI hand, Pisa/IIT Soft Hand) and on industrial grippers.
