Salvatore Del Sorbo was born in Milan, Italy, in 1987. He started his education in Physics at the University of Naples "Federico II", where he was awarded a Master degree in Condensed Matter Physics in 2013, whit a thesis on Graphene/Silicon electrical junction for photovoltaic applications, carried out at the facilities of ENEA in Portici (Naples, Italy).

In 2017, he defended his PhD thesis at the University of Pavia. The main focus was on the light scattering and transport of light in disordered textures surfaces. He realized this work in the group of Photonics and Nanostructures under the supervision of Prof Lucio Claudio Andreani and of Prof Matteo Galli. For his PhD, Salvatore collaborated with the group of Prof Francesco Buatier de Mongeot from the University of Genova (Italy) and the department of CNR-IPCF in Messina (Italy). With the latter, he described and modelized the phenomenon of the Coherent Backscattering of Raman light for the first time.

Since September 2020, Salvatore is Post Doc at Dr Antonio Ambrosio's research line named Vectorial Nano-imaging at the Center for Nano Science and Technology (CNST) of IIT in Milan. His scientific activity is dedicated to the development of tunable metasurfaces within the project from Fondazione Cariplo.

From 2017 to 2020, he had experiences as high school teacher of Mathematics and Physics.
