Public

96 million annual public financing, 85% of which is used for scientific activities (data updated 31st December 2015). 

Indipendent

From 2006 to 2015 the Foundation has been receiving private and no-profit funding accounting for more than 130 million euros thanks to successful applications to competitive projects and industrial partnerships. Main projects include: Graphene FET Flagship (the European project for the development of graphene and two-dimensional materials), the joint IIT-INAIL rehabilitation, the Nikon Imaging Center, a joint lab in collaboration with Nikon dedicated to ligth microscopy and 16 ERC grants (European Research Council). Since 2006 more than 130 European Projects, 100 national and international funding projects and 270 industrial projects have been won. (data update 31st December 2015)

Infrastructure

Over 40,000 sq. mt. laboratory spaces between Genoa Central Lab (30,000 sq. mt) and 11 satellite centers in Italy and abroad.

Staff

In 2015 there are more than 1,470 employees coming from over 50 countries. Average age: 34, technical/scientific staff: 90%, 46% of whom are from abroad (16% are returned Italians), 41% women, scientific backgrounds encompassing 17 different fields between hard/applied sciences and life sciences. (data updated 31st December 2015)
