POST DOC in “Synthetic photobiology in bacterial cells”

Luogo di lavoro: Napoli, IIT@CRIB
Inserito il: 13/01/2020 - Scade il: 30/06/2020

A postdoctoral position in “Synthetic photobiology in bacterial cells” will be available at the Center for Advanced Biomaterials for Healthcare, IIT@CRIB, Naples in the Synthetic and Systems Biology for Biomedicine Research Line within the ERC-2018 AdG SYGMA 834615.

Microorganisms can “see” light through light sensitive proteins called photoreceptors. Most of the relevant genes have been isolated from various microorganisms, genetically optimized and rewired for extending the range of photobiological control in E.coli. The aim of the present project is to develop a library of prokaryotic transcriptional circuits in which inputs are light regulated promoters and outputs are specific dynamical responses such as motility and growth rate.

The selected candidate will work in collaboration with a team of researchers in molecular biology and physics on design, characterization and modeling of genetic parts that will enable global control of cellular dynamics through spatially and temporally modulated light signals.

The ideal candidate for this position should:

  • Have a PhD in Biology, Molecular biology, Synthetic biology, and/or  Microbiology or a related discipline;
  • Have strong background in molecular biology, synthetic biology, and/or  microbiology and and be highly independent with a strong propensity for interdisciplinary research;
  • Have previous experience in the design and implementation of genetic networks in E.coli;
  • Be a highly motivated and creative researcher who wants to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research environment and who is willing to interact with both experimental and theoretical scientists.

We value candidates with a proactive attitude and results-oriented mindset, good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary research team.

An internationally competitive salary, dependent on experience, will be offered.

Interested applicants should submit their CV, list of publications, a statement of research interests, and names of two referees to Velia Siciliano
