I was born in Tambov, Russia, in 1984; graduated from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 2007, got my PhD with "cum laude" distinction from University of Groningen (Netherlands) in 2012, working with Maxim Mostovoy on modeling of multiferroic materials and frustrated spin systems with non-collinear orders. After that I did my postdoc with David Vanderbilt at Rutgers University (USA), combining models and ab-initio calculations to describe magnetoelectric effects in multiferroics and CDW states in layered dichalcogenides. From September 2015 I'm leading the Quantum Materials Theory group at IIT. We work in close collaboration with experimental groups and focus on getting quantitative description of quantum phenomena in realistic materials. I have coauthored papers in Nature Materials, Nature Communications, PRL and other journals.
