Gonzalo Alvarez-Perez obtained his BScs in Physics and Mathematics from University of Oviedo (Spain) in 2017. In 2018, he obtained a MSc in Nanoscience from University of the Basque Country (Spain) and a MSc in Big Data Analytics from Carlos III University of Madrid (Spain). In 2024, he completed his PhD in Nanoscience and Condensed Matter Physics from University of Oviedo with a cum laude distinction. During his PhD, Gonzalo focused on the investigation of light-matter interactions in 2D materials, in the Quantum Nano-optics Group under the supervision of Dr. Pablo Alonso-González and Dr. Alexey Nikitin. In particular, he explored hyperbolic phonon polaritons. In 2022 he obtained a Fulbright fellowship to carry out predoctoral research in the Infrared Research Lab at Columbia University under the supervision of Prof. Dmitri Basov. In 2023, he undertook a four-month short stay at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin, in the Lattice Dynamics Group under the supervision of Dr. Alexander Paarmann. Now, in the Computational Nanoplasmonics Group at IIT, he investigates nonlinear phenomena in plasmonic systems under the supervision of Dr. Cristian Ciracì and in the framework of the EIC NEHO project.
