About

Michael De Oliveira obtained his BSc in Astronomy & Astrophysics, BSc (Hons) and MSc in Physics with distinction at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. His early research was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Andrew Forbes at the Structured Light Group, where he explored the potential of structured light in quantum applications. He recently earned his PhD from the Politecnico di Milano, in a joint effort with the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), where he was supervised by Dr. Antonio Ambrosio. His thesis focused on structured light, exploring the intricate manipulation of its multiple degrees of freedom—including polarisation, phase, amplitude, frequency, and temporal control—to unlock new potentials in optics and photonics.
